Dutch Swing College Band – My Inspiration
Dutch Swing College Band – My Inspiration Burghausen (Germany), 17th March 2007 A popular saying goes: “There are two kinds of music, good music and bad music”. For the true fan of good traditional jazz music the choice is simple, because there is only one Dutch Swing College Band. The Dutch Swing College Band started out as an amateur-college combo on liberation day (1945, may 5th) and through the years it has grown into a worldfamous jazz ensemble that has toured all five continents to much acclaim. The DSC played a prominent role during the post-war period. At the time many youngsters fell under the spell of the original Amerian music: jazz. The band, which has existed for more than sixty years, has given concerts all over the world and the sounds have been registered on practically all types of sound recordings since 1945. The band also appeared frequently on TV and in film productions. Through the years many big names in jazz music were backed by the DSC, from Sidney Bechet, Joe Venuti and Rita Reys to Teddy Wilson. The expression “The Haque School” was born out of the big influence of the DSC on the Dutch jazz scene. Deservedly many jazz fans consider the DSC almost as an institution. Fortunately, the Dutch Swing College Band has never presented itself as a show or glitter orchestra. The musicians have always succeeded in capturing the public’s attention with their excellent jazz performances. Cheap show tricks were absolutely out of the question. In 1960, the DSC …

Fish Leong (traditional Chinese: 梁靜茹; simplified Chinese: 梁静茹; pinyin: Liáng Jìngrú; born June 16, 1978 in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia with family root in Shunde, Guangdong, China) is the stage name of Jasmine Leong, a Chinese Malaysian singer in the Mandarin pop scene who has had much success in Taiwan, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Japan. She is best known for her love-themed ballads, many of which have become popular KTV hits.Leong was born in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia and she grew up in Bahau, a small town where is half an hour driving time away from Kuala Pilah. Her real name is “Leong Chui Peng” (Chinese: 梁翠萍; pinyin: Liáng Cùipíng). She started her career as a cover version singer at Hai Luo Music Cafe. Z-Chen is her cousin. In her youth, Leong had participated in many local singing competitions and emerged as the winner in a few of them. Veteran singer Jonathan Lee discovered her during a singing competition at Hai Luo. She was then singing a song called Qī Dài (期待) which was composed by her friend. She started her career in Taiwan, in October 1997, after joining Rock Records of Taiwan. It was then that she adopted the name “Fish”, because the last character of her name “茹” sounds like “fish” (魚) in Cantonese. Her debut album Yí Yè Zhǎng Dà (一夜長大) was released after two years, only to encounter an earthquake on the day of the album launch promotion (21 September 1999). Her career only managed to take …
Leader Of The Band – Tribute To Dan Fogelberg
Daniel “Dan” Grayling Fogelberg (b. Peoria, Illinois on August 13, 1951) is an American singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, whose music has been inspired by sources as diverse as folk, pop, Classical music, jazz, and bluegrass music. Fogelberg, the youngest of Lawrence and Margaret (Young) Fogelberg’s three sons, learned to play piano as a child. His father was a high school band director who spent most of his career at Peoria Woodruff High School and Pekin High School (and would later be the inspiration for “Leader of the Band”) and his mother was a pianist. Using a Mel Bay course book, he taught himself to play a Hawaiian slide guitar his grandfather gave to him. He started his music career at age 14, when he joined his first band, the Clan, which paid homage to The Beatles. His second band was another cover combo, the Coachmen, which, in 1967, released two singles on Ledger Records: “Maybe Time Will Let Me Forget” and “Autumn Leaves.” After graduating from Woodruff High School in 1969, he studied theater arts and painting at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and began performing as a solo acoustic player in area coffeehouses. There, he was discovered in 1971 by Irving Azoff. Fogelberg and Azoff, who started his music-management career promoting another Illinois act, REO Speedwagon, moved to California to seek their fortunes. Fogelberg became a session musician who played with pop-folk artists like Van Morrison. In 1972, he released his debut album …

Steve Morse Band – Ice Cakes
Live in Baden-Baden, Germany, 1990 (the following review comes from: www.thehighwaystar.com ) After forming the Dixie Dregs at the University of Miami, Steve won Overall Best Guitarist from Guitar Player/Magazine’s Readers Poll five consecutive years in a row (1982-1986) and was then moved to their Gallery of Greats and removed from contention in order to give other guitar players a chance. He has received many Grammy nominations, both for his work with the Dregs and as a solo artist. He has worked with dozens of famous guitarists of various musical genres, and been a member of the Dregs, Kansas, Living Loud, and (of course) Deep Purple. These performances come from 1990, a few years before he joined Deep Purple, when he was touring with the Steve Morse Band, a trio that included bassist extraordinaire Dave LaRue, and drummer Van Romaine. The DVD features two concerts culled from the vaults of the German television program Ohne Filter Show. The three exemplary musicians concoct a blend of intoxicating music — a sound Steve Morse describes as “too rock for jazz”. With Steve busy for the next year or so with Deep Purple’s “Rapture Of The Deep” world tour, and Dave LaRue equally committed to touring with Joe Satriani, this may be your best chance to see the Steve Morse Band live for some time to come.
